Dear Winnipeg Beach Day Camp family...​​

 

My name is Sydney Kay and I am thrilled to be returning to camp for my sixth summer, this time as your camp director! Though I never attended WBDC as a camper, I have spent every summer I can remember at camp. When I was younger, I went to Camp Massad which sparked my love for camp and my desire to eventually become a counsellor. For my first two years at Winnipeg Beach Day Camp, I learned the basics as a counsellor, working with all of our age groups and for the past three years I have been a group leader for the Intermediates and led the arts specialty programs. This year, I am looking to bring back more field trips since I know our campers enjoyed them in the past. I am beyond excited to step into this new role and serve the camp community in a new way!

 

Unlike some of our previous directors, I am not an education student, however I love teaching and learning with others, though at camp it is usually restricted to new art techniques or sports games :) I am currently studying genetics at the University of Manitoba and work in biochemistry research. When I am not at camp in the summer, you can find me at vocal rehearsals for the Chai Folk Ensemble or reading in the summer sun. I also occasionally paint watercolours, something I've enjoyed bringing to my arts programming these past few years.  

 

Having been at WBDC for so long, this camp, its campers, counsellors, and community have become the people I love spending my summer with. I am looking forward to our campers engaging with all of the programming we have to offer this summer! Whether it's painting, singing campfire songs, playing Ollie Ollie Over and getting the balls stuck in trees, or a game of camp-wide capture the flag that feels way more high stakes than it actually is, I know we will have a great summer!
